Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus Ingredients

  • Asparagus: its peak season is spring, but good-quality asparagus can be found year-round!
  • Bacon: you can use any kind of bacon you like – I prefer to use rasher-style turkey bacon. It’s less greasy than traditional pork bacon, but still full of flavor!
  • Black pepper: adds a touch of smoky spice to the recipe.
  • Olive oil: crisps up the asparagus and bacon and adds a rich flavor.
  • Garlic (optional): it will add another layer of spice.

Add-ins and Variations

  • Add cheese: parmesan, feta, mozzarella, and even vegan cheese substitutes would be great with this recipe!
  • Add a glaze: this savory and salty recipe would go perfectly with a sweet glaze like maple-brown sugar.
  • Add sauteed onions: saute until caramelized and then place on top of the bundles of asparagus.
  • Add other vegetables: wrap peppers, zucchini, or mushrooms with the asparagus!

How to Make Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus

  1. Preheat the oven. While you prepare the asparagus and bacon, let the oven preheat to 350 degrees F.
  2. Cut the ends off the asparagus. You can either cut or snap the tough ends off the asparagus. Discard ends.
  3. Toss asparagus in the oil. Using tongs, gently toss asparagus in a tablespoon of olive oil.
  4. Wrap asparagus stalks with bacon. Now, gather 3-5 stalks of asparagus and gently wrap them with a single slice of bacon. You could wrap fewer spears if you want a lot of bacon, or more if you want less.
  5. Place on a prepared baking sheet. Add parchment paper to a baking sheet. Then lay the bacon-wrapped asparagus bundles on the parchment paper.
  6. Add seasonings. Drizzle a little olive oil on top of the asparagus. Sprinkle with a little pepper and add garlic if desired. Avoid using salt, since the bacon will add plenty of salty goodness.
  7. Bake. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15-20 minutes, or until bacon is cooked through.
  8. Serve. Serve immediately. Can be used as an appetizer, or as a side dish to turkey, chicken, or fish.
